Moving to Italy isn't for the faint of heart. Did we know that when we made the decision? Heck no! Well in all honesty, we could have guessed judging by the responses we got when we googled 'moving to Italy' but we weren't going to let anyone squash our dreams so onward we charged. Yes, there have been lots of blood, sweat and tears along the way but its not impossible and as we soon learned shortly after moving its a whole lot easier if you go about illegally...but we aren't in the business of taking chances so after one too many trips to the central Questura (main immigration office) we live to tell the tale of getting our Permesso di Soggiornos.
The interesting thing about this process is that is NEVER the same for two people. Every blog, article, website we read gave us a different explanation of how to file the paperwork. We were also in a unique situation in that one of us was applying for the study permit while the other for family cohesion (a process not even the main Questura has figured out!). However, we think it is worth sharing our experience because the process is so elusive that ANY help is welcome. Over the next couple of weeks, we will be sharing our advice on moving to Italy...everything from paperwork, to renting an apartment, to moving between cities.
