Last fall we set out on a road trip through the Emilia Romagna countryside in search of a quiet retreat and some of Italy's best food. When we stumbled upon Antica Corte Pallavina in our research we quickly booked the dreamy Stanze dei Duchi suite. A hidden gem tucked along the Po River, The Antica Corte Pallavina has been carefully restored over 20 years with an emphasis local food culture. It was the perfect place to start our exploration of this region of Italy! When we arrived late Friday evening, the smells of the Michelin star restaurant quickly welcomed us and soon we were dining on the famous Culatello ham, aged in the Antica's own cellars, and sipping the restaurant's own wine production. It came as no surprise that Antica Corte Pallavina was recently listed in Mr. Porter's "My Secret Italy by Our Favorite Italians." There is no better starting point for exploring the Emilia Romagna region then here!
On Saturday we woke early for a tour of the regions famous Parmesan cheese production as well as a closer look at the curing and ageing process of the Culatello ham and better known local delicacy, prosciutto ham.
Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer! After our tour, we took a walk through the beautiful gardens and had another tasting of the delicious ham and wine before we were off to our next destination. However, we cannot wait to return. Next time we will be renting bicycles to explore the neighboring towns and indulge in more food and wine :)
